It's a familiar pattern at this point: Soon after peak summer travel comes to a close, airlines start slashing airfare in the fall and beyond in order to fill their emptier planes running to and from Europe.

So while the airlines make millions upon millions of dollars on Americans dead-set on visiting Europe in the summer (because they'll play almost anything to do so), we travelers are the winners in the winter.

See just how low they'll go with a flight to Amsterdam (AMS).

We're used to seeing cheap fares to Amsterdam in the fall and winter. But roundtrip flights that begin with the number 3 are still something special.

This dirt-cheap flight was a byproduct of American Airlines targeting Delta hubs, hoping to poach some of the Atlanta-based airline's customers with a tantalizing deal. And boy were Delta flyers happy about it! When the airlines compete like this, travelers end up winning. 

Or Paris from Just $362

Yes, it gets even cheaper … even for a bucket list trip to Paris.

Just a week or so ago, American Airlines again targeted several Delta and United hubs with some unbelievable sub-$400 roundtrip flights to Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) for this winter. 

But it didn't stop there: JetBlue got into the mix, slashing fares on its own nonstop flights from Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK), too. Behold: A $365 roundtrip fare to Paris. 

Huge Savings on Nonstop Fares All over Europe

Cheap one-stop fares to Europe are one thing: Airlines are regularly slashing prices to and from one another's hubs to win over customers. But passengers typically pay a huge premium to fly nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean. 

Not lately. Check out this long list of cheap nonstop fares over to Europe and back.

You don't have to fly Norse Atlantic or other low-cost carriers to get these prices. No, these sub-$500 (and, in many cases, sub-$400) transatlantic fares were all on the likes of American, Delta, United, and their international partners.

The end result were plenty of cheap flights to destinations like London-Heathrow (LHR), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Amsterdam (AMS), and more, like this one. 

If there's one spot that's a shoe-in for a cheap nonstop, it might be Dublin (DUB). Ireland's flag carrier, Aer Lingus, routinely offers clearance-like sales on airfare – especially during the off-peak months.

When Aer Lingus puts on one of these famous nonstop sales, it's time to pay attention. This deal offered outstanding value to Americans in all the of the cities above, but gave a special little discount to flyers in Toronto (YYZ), too. 

Lisbon for Only $286 (!!!)

It feels like Portugal is more popular than ever. And yet here we are: Staring down one of the cheapest fares we've ever seen to Lisbon (LIS) – in this case, departing from Toronto (YYZ).

This unbelievable American Airlines fare to Europe is cheaper than a flight from Toronto (YYZ) to Florida, that's for sure! 

It didn't last long – the best fares never do. But it was outstanding value for our subscribers while it lasted. 

All the Way to Finland & Back from $383 

Dogsledding through the woods by day. Peering at the northern lights by night. Finland in the wintertime might be a hard sell for some travelers, but for those looking for true adventure and the quiet that only the snowy woods can provide, Finland is the trip of dreams. 

But forget paying $800 or more to make those dreams a reality.

Icelandair was behind this outstanding flight deal, connecting travelers with one stop to Helsinki (HEL) in 2024 and 2025. Icelandair's surprise sales are always a tasty treat for travelers who have Northern Europe on the mind. 

Fly SAS to Europe from $361

There's something about the Nordic airlines that just makes them want to run massive sales. Scandinavian Airlines, or SAS, is also well-known for its aggressive flash sales. 

The latest one was a doozy. 

This wasn't some targeted, one-off sale between two or three cities. No, SAS slashed prices from nearly all of its U.S. and Canadian gateways, as well as its Northern European destinations. 

And that was only about half the list! It doesn't even include the likes of Chicago-O'Hare (ORD), Miami (MIA), or more. 

The lowest fare was this flight to Brussels (BRU), which is certainly the cheapest way to get to Belgium from the U.S. that we can imagine. 

Bottom Line

Flights to Europe don't have to be expensive. In fact, they don't have to cost more than a trip to Florida this winter. 

You'd be surprised how inexpensive it might be to fly to Europe this year or next, with several routes coming in under $399 roundtrip!
