Under Canvas – a renowned chain of glamping locations near many U.S. National Parks – has joined the World of Hyatt program, under the umbrella of Mr. and Mrs. Smith luxury hotels

According to a release from the new partners, World of Hyatt members can now earn or redeem their points on Under Canvas stays, giving travelers a rare chance to book these unique destinations using points and miles. As is the case with all of its Mr. and Mrs. Smith properties, World of Hyatt members can also earn 5x points per dollar on Under Canvas tents, earn 4x more when using their World of Hyatt credit cards, earn toward Hyatt status during their stays, and even get room (or tent) upgrades based on availability.

Hyatt is pairing up with Under Canvas by virtue of its recent partnership with Mr. and Mrs. Smith. And there's the rub for travelers hoping to book Under Canvas using ultra-valuable Hyatt points: Because the award rates at these properties are tied to the cash price, the redemptions are rarely very good.

Still, it's an exciting addition because Under Canvas is so cool. Whether you redeem points or book with cash, the benefits pass down to any of Under Canvas's 12 current locations (and it's premium brand “ULUM” set in Moab) around the U.S. – many in close proximity to National Parks. The roster of Under Canvas locations includes locations near Zion, Yellowstone, Acadia, Great Smoky Mountains, Glacier, and more.

If you're not familiar, glamping is like camping … but more glamorous. With many of the trappings of a regular hotel, Under Canvas tents have queen and king-size beds with sheets, pillows, blankets – the works. All furnishings are from West Elm and the tents also come with USB-powered fans, lights, and other modern conveniences. Rest assured, you won't exactly be “roughing it.”

The rooms are cleaned daily by housekeepers (by request, in some cases), too. Higher-end tents even have private toilets and showers inside of them. Standard rooms typically have shared bathrooms (with individual stalls and shower units).

During colder times, tents can be heated using wood-burning stoves, too.

(Full disclosure: After writing the review linked above, I got married at Under Canvas–Glacier in 2022. It was already my favorite hotel in the world before I got married there…but now I have a particularly special affection for the Under Canvas brand)

All Under Canvas properties are seasonal, and during the peak summer months, many of the properties fill up fast. That routinely leads to nightly cash rates in the $400 to $500 range, and seeing prices north of $700 isn't uncommon. This new partnership with Mr. & Mrs. Smith gives travelers a chance to spend their World of Hyatt points instead.

Under Canvas properties are already available through World of Hyatt. According to this search for a one-night stay at Under Canvas – Glacier this fall, the smallest tents are going for 24,250 points per night. The “Deluxe” and “Suite” rooms with private showers and toilets are more than 40,000 points per night.

Unfortunately, Hyatt's partnership with Mr. and Mrs. Smith means that the points rates are priced dynamically – typically fluctuating with the cash price of the available rooms. So while you may be able to get a crazy outsized value on a Park Hyatt or Hyatt Regency when you book with your Hyatt points, you won't get outsized value when using points to book Under Canvas.

Before this World of Hyatt partnership, Under Canvas had no loyalty program to speak of. Some of its locations were bookable with Chase points through the Chase Travel℠ portal years ago.

For travelers already earning World of Hyatt points or even Chase Ultimate Rewards, the addition of Under Canvas to the portfolio gives travelers a super unique new opportunity to glamp without the big out-of-pocket cost.

Bottom Line

The glamping brand Under Canvas has joined the World of Hyatt program thanks to its partnership with Mr. and Mrs. Smith luxury hotels.

World of Hyatt members can now earn and redeem their points on stays at the popular glamping spots near many U.S. National Parks, as well as use their Hyatt elite status benefits.
